Well, this has been a summer, hasn’t it? Really, I’m asking, because I think I missed it somewhere between July and now.
Here we are, the 18th of September. It’s -1 C (as I write this), and it looks like we’ll get a bit of a break from rain until, oops, I was going to say, “Monday or Tuesday”, but The Weather Network just updated — looks like the water’s going to be turned back on tomorrow for a couple of days. Then, sunny or partially sunny till October 1st or 2nd!
Yeah, right!
Now, I don’t want to sound like a whiner. I know that people on the west coast typically put up with more rain than we do throughout the year, but, they don’t normally get their cans frozen off for six months out of twelve either. Even our most trusted spokespeople, radio announcers, can’t stand it…
“Saskatchewan weather is 11 months winter and one month bad skiing!”, according to one airwave truth-sayer. Amen to that, brother.
So, you see, we NEED our summers here to be warm and sunny, with a bit of rain, at the just the right times to make the farmers happy. In fact, WE DEMAND THEM.
So, who’s in charge? Who do we talk to?
The government? HA! If they can’t solve a simple problem like the daylight savings thing, then I think too much rain’s a bit beyond them, but what the heck. Let’s write a collective letter that simply says…
Dear MP,
Enough with the RAIN already!!!
Respectfully,
Your Drowned-rat Constituents
That ought to do it, don’t you think? Come on, when has writing your MP NEVER worked?
With Regina being officially approved for the Provincial Disaster Relief Program, and with record crops of Canola standing in fields around Melville, because the ground’s too wet to let harvester’s go get it, AND, with my dog moping around because it’s too rainy and dad won’t take her for a walk every two minutes, I’m feeling justified in complaining just a little more than is usual for a Saskatchewanian (Saskatchewanite? Guy from Saskatchewan? Whatever.).
But, instead of complaining about it, maybe some action should be taken. That’s it, we need to BLAME someone.
How about the good old US of A. They must be doing atmosphere seeding or something. You know the “Chem-Trail” theorists can’t ALL be wrong.
Just go Google “chem-trails” or something similar and you’ll find ABSOLUTE proof that the US and other governments are up to no good. I’m just amazed at the sheer volume of evidence uncovered by unbiased, credible and educated YouTube contributors alone.
But, you know who I think the real culprit is?
Iceland!
That’s right, Iceland. How they let that stinking volcano of theirs get so out of control is completely beyond me. Surely the administrators and scientists of a country that sits on top of more geological instability than pretty much any other place on the planet MUST have known that there was trouble brewing.
But, did they do ANYTHING to stop it? No. Not a darned thing. I mean, how tough can it be to stop up a volcano, or, if for some reason you can’t do that, at least do something about all that ash and don’t just let it blast away into the atmosphere! Not only are you disrupting the lives of European air travellers, I’m pretty sure you’ve mucked up MY SUMMER to boot.
Oh well, no matter who’s to blame, I’m going to hope for a better performance for next year, otherwise, I might have to seriously consider my commitment to this province.
Do you hear that Saskatchewan, USA, Iceland, and whoever else conspired to make my summer suck? Another like this one and I’m going to pickup and move my butt somewhere more hospitable!
In fact, I’m subscribing to the “Heaven on Earth” travel guide as soon as I get done here, so don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Shape up, now, I’m serious!

Dear Don,
Just to let you know the West Coast – has truly been the Wet Coast this summer. I am originally from Kelowna and 10 years of living on the Coast….well let me put it this way…. I have not truly felt “warm”……
Yes I am still grateful I do not experience 11 months of winter……but I am not apt to grow webbed feet either.
The warmest weather we experienced this summer was our two weeks in the beginning of July in Pictou Nova Scotia…….albeit nice a warm in the summer there……. I will stay wet here rather than snowed in come winter there.
Okay enough already….. fun to share……here is my weather forecast. Whatever the weather is when you wake up is the weather and whatever transpires during the day is the ongoing forecast. The saying on the island here is …..want to know what the weather forecast is…wait 10 min.
Have a wonderful day rain or shine……and warm up in the embrace of love we call family!
Cheers Don,
Mona
Hey Mona. Thanks for the comment. I find it truly fun to pick on my own attitudes once in a while. Helps to clear the way for more productive things.
My brother’s been in Vancouver for almost 40 years and he’s often said that he didn’t warm up much before his 15th year there.
Have a great day!
Hi Don,
I like how you think! And thanks for the heads up on acclimatizing to the Wet coast Weather…. only 5 years to go and I may feel warm again…good news!
Have a great day,
Mona
HeHe, that’s why I’m here… to offer whatever encouragement I can
